MISSION
Transit for Livable Communities is a non-profit organization that works to
improve the quality of life in Minnesota communities through
a balanced transportation system that encourages transit, walking, biking, and transit-oriented development. Transit for Livable Communities was founded in 1996 and is funded through private donations and foundation grants.
OUR WORK
- Conduct research that documents the real costs and benefits of our transportation system.
- Testify at the state legislature and participate in national and local policy discussions.
- Serve as a resource to provide information to the public, the media, legislators, and institutions so they can advocate for greater transportation choices.
- Organize and mobilize bus riders and transit supporters so their voices are heard when decisions are made.
- Give presentations and educate officials and community leaders on the benefits of transit, transit-oriented development, and the link between land use and transportation.
- We are non-profit and non-partisan.
VALUES
These
values guide the work of TLC's staff and board:
ALTERNATIVES. Minnesota
residents deserve a greater range of transportation choices.
ENVIRONMENTAL
PROTECTION. A more balanced transportation system
will reduce soil, water, and air pollution and preserve
open space.
ACCESS. All
Minnesotans deserve convenient, safe, and affordable
access to jobs, education, recreation, and goods and
services.
SMART
DEVELOPMENT. Transportation investments should
promote healthy communities by reducing automobile
use and public and private transportation costs.
ECONOMIC
VITALITY. A balanced and affordable transportation
system is critical to ensuring the economic strength
of Minnesota communities.
SOUND
RESEARCH. Policy-makers need comprehensive, credible
information on transportation choices and best practices
