Cedar Lake Trail
Background
The Cedar Lake Trail is America's first bike freeway, located on the west side of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Inaugurated on February 17, 1995, the trail features two separate one-way lanes for bike traffic and one two-way lane for pedestrian traffic. The paved trail runs from downtown Minneapolis to connect with the city's most popular bike trails in the west suburbs. The trail follows the BNSF Railway line west out of downtown Minneapolis.
Project Updates, News, and Events Updates
Phase III of Cedar Lake Trail Construction Delayed
Phase III of the Cedar Lake Trail would start at Royalston Bridge and Glenwood Avenue and goes to West River Road. Due to the impact of the new Twins Ballpark, the project is being designed in two segments. The design of the westerly segment (Royalston Ave N to Washington Ave N) needs to be coordinated with the Twins Ballpark and North Star Project. The design of the easterly segment (Washington to West River Pkwy) is anticipated to be completed by August 2007 with the construction to follow.
