TLC Celebrates a Decade of Great Work!
The Union Depot was filled with nearly 300 people on September 28, 2007. It was an evening of celebration: Transit for Livable Communities celebrated its 10 year anniversary by honoring the lifetime achievements of retired Congressman Martin Sabo.
Replacing the Bridge: Comments & Suggestions
Transit for Livable Communities wrote a letter to MnDOT Commissioner Carol Molnau, outlining comments and concerns about the proposed design of the new I-35W bridge over the Mississippi River. The comments focus on limiting the size of the bridge, adding transit options on the bridge, and improving bicycle and pedestrian accommodations along the River beneath the bridge. Find out more!
TLC's Bike/Pedestrian Counts Reveal Desire for Safer Routes
TLC placed volunteer counters all across Minneapolis, ranging from places on the Midtown Greenway and downtown Minneapolis to busy intersections in Northside and Cedar/Riverside neighborhoods. The results from the counts were revealing.
Central Corridor: Timeline Announced for Public Input
At the most recent Central Corridor Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC), The Metropolitan council reported plans to analyze two (and possibly a third) additional station location for the Central Corridor light rail transit. The locations to be studied include Western, Victoria and possibly Hamline. The assessment will include impacts on ridership, parking, travel time and capital costs. Learn more!
Business Community: State Should Spend More on Transit. The annual Business Barometer Survey by the state Chamber of Commerce and Himle Horner Inc., a Bloomington public affairs firm, finds widespread agreement that the state should spend more on transportation. Further, there's broad acknowledgment that both highways and transit need improvement. The survey found better than 50 percent support for funding transit with a half-cent sales-tax boost in the metro area.

October 23-25, 2007. Central Corridor Station Area Planning, Fall 2007 Roundtable and Workshop Sessions. The City of St. Paul will present an overview of station-specific Central Corridor work to-date, the Metropolitan Council will present station location, configuration and engineering details, and there will be facilitated discussions on station area challenges and opportunities.All are held at the Central Corridor Resource Center (1080 University Avenue, St. Paul), with an open house/refreshments from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and roundtable sessions from 6:30-9:00 p.m. October 23: Westgate, Raymond and Fairview; October 24: Snelling and Lexington; October 25: Dale and Rice. October 23-25, 2007. Access Minneapolis Public Input Meetings. The City of Minneapolis is hosting eight public meetings to discuss the City’s draft Ten-Year Transportation Plan and its Streetcar Feasibility Study. The final three will be held from October 23-25. The public will have an opportunity to provide feedback on plan recommendations and to discuss key transportation issues facing Minneapolis. Upon request, the City will provide reasonable accommodations to persons with disabilities or who are in need of a translator at the upcoming meetings.
