What's Up With a Special Session?
Transit for Livable Communities is disappointed that Governor Pawlenty chose to hold a special session without addressing transportation. Yet again, we're left waiting for the 21st century transportation system that Minnesotans want and deserve. What does this mean for transit?
Urban Partnership Agreement: What Does This Mean for the Twin Cities?
In short, the UPA grant means that the Minneapolis region will receive $133.3 million to install high-occupancy toll lanes and to develop the groundwork for bus rapid-transit service along Interstate 35W between Lakeville and downtown Minneapolis. Transit for Livable Communities explores the ins and outs of this grant.
Bike/Walk Twin Cities Website: What Do You Think?
The new Bike/Walk Twin Cities website launched just in time for the State Fair. We'll be expanding the website even more over the upcoming months, so it would be great to hear your thoughts on what can make this great resource even greater. Send your comments to webmaster@bikewalktwincities.org.
Twin Cities Residents Want Transit, Now Let's Commit to Funding It
Matt Clark, a TLC board member and vice president of the Minneapolis division of a global investment bank, recently authored an editorial calling for more transit funding. "Our Legislature and governor have an obligation to invest in a transportation system that will help our region prosper both today and tomorrow," says Clark. "If we don't want to be left 'waiting at the station,' we must demand the same commitment from our leaders here in Minnesota." MN2020, a progressive, non-partisan think tank, published the editorial.

The event will also honor retired Congressman Martin Sabo for his leadership in securing significant federal funding for many transit, bicycling, and quality of life improvements in the Twin Cities. The event will serve as a fundraiser for TLC, with proceeds benefiting our education, research, and organizing work for transportation choices in the region. Tickets are now available. The event will be held at St. Paul's Union Depot, with a reception at 5:30 p.m., and dinner and program at 6:30 p.m.
Success at the State Fair!
Nearly 100 volunteers worked with Transit for Livable Communities at its Bike/Walk Twin Cities exhibit in the Eco Experience Building at the State Fair. Nearly 20,000 people walked through the exhibit, and volunteers helped people learn how to store bikes on bus/light rail bike racks, find routes, and talk about Bike/Walk Twin Cities. Many thanks, and congratulations!
