Citizens
from every walk of life want a more balanced, cost effective transportation
system in the Twin Cities region.
State
and regional government must reform our inflexible and outdated
transportation funding system, so that Minnesotans have real choices.
They should set ambitious transportation goals, use incentives to foster
progress, and measure results.
Local governments must make investments and encourage development that
gives people the option of leaving the car at home for some trips. They
should make communities safe and convenient for transit use, walking,
and bicycling.
Employers can offer employees and customers a range of commute incentives
that will reduce parking costs and traffic snarls.
Citizens can educate and lobby elected and appointed representatives,
urging them to think in terms of the complete range of options in land-use
and transportation decisions.
The
Citizens’ Agenda calls for bold leadership on building the
transportation system we need for today and tomorrow.
