JamÉz Smith, Program Assistant

jamez smithJaméz joined Transit for Livable Communities in 2007 as part of the organization’s Bike/Walk Twin Cities initiative.

Jaméz brings a wealth of experience to Transit for Livable Communities. Mr. Tallerico’s typing class helped Jaméz secure his first office job working for the San Francisco Housing Authority at the age of 12, and it was all uphill from there.

After serving in the military and working for a large Fortune 500 company, Jaméz made the somewhat startling decision to leave corporate America. With few exceptions, he’s been in the non-profit sector ever since. He interned at Artists Television Access, taught computer applications at City College of San Francisco, served as an administrative assistant for the Treasure Island Homeless Development Initiative, reorganized the Travel Department of Walden House, Inc., and recruited and conducted surveys for a research study exploring connections between crystal meth and HIV infection rates for the Health Research Association.

Before joining Transit for Livable Communities, Jaméz lived in sunny California. He was a resident DJ at The Standard Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, and also worked for a limited time in the film industry (if you look closely, you can glimpse his work on the set of the Nine Inch Nails video Survivalism).

Jaméz is a published poet, founding member of the multi-disciplinary theatre performance group Out/Rage, an accomplished DJ, and a 35mm colour-slide photographer. In the Twin Cities, Jaméz continues to pursue his interest in the arts and nightlife.
