This summer, we’re starting outreach and organizing in the Riverview Corridor, which runs from downtown Saint Paul to the airport and Mall of America. And we’re kicking off a summer fundraising campaign to support our community engagement efforts. We have a goal of raising $2,500 by the end of summer. Here’s the page to donate.

What’s going on along Riverview?

The corridor is the focus of a study about increasing transit options (visit www.riverviewcorridor.org for information). Right now the busy Route 54 bus is the primary transit route in the corridor. It runs nearly 24-hours (to get people to jobs at the airport and Mall of America) and it is often really packed. In coming years, the corridor is expected to add 32,000 residents (a 63 percent increase) and 41,500 jobs (a 33 percent increase). Figuring out options for increased transit will help accommodate this growth. Better options could also make life easier for the 16 percent of households along the corridor that don’t own a car. We are also interested in making sure biking and pedestrian options are part of the vision for the corridor—that they are at least maintained and hopefully improved.

What are we doing?

Our community organizer, Andrea Kiepe, is already reaching out to our members in the corridor and meeting with individuals, organizations, and business owners. We want to make sure that neighborhood residents and businesses are deeply involved in this study. Your support will help us seize every occasion (well, more of them!) to talk with people about their concerns and hopes for their neighborhood and the region. If change is coming (and it is), help us find out what people love about where they live—and want to keep—and what changes or improvements they’d like to see.

What will your support help us do?

  • meet with community groups, business owners, and individuals
  • identify residents’ concerns about their neighborhoods today and their vision for the future
  • share experiences and compare Riverview with other corridors
  • explore options for bicycling and walking access to transit and key destinations

Your donation is an important signal of your support for this work—and for making sure that our region comes up with transportation plans that serve people and foster healthy, economically competitive communities.

Donate here! Thank you!
