Transportation-ForwardThere’s a new year underway and a new political season on the horizon. As we approach another legislative session at the State Capitol, Transit for Livable Communities and our allies remain committed to fighting for a transportation win that improves quality of life and economic opportunity for every Minnesotan.

Many critical projects are at stake—including new light rail and bus rapid transit lines, safe walking and bicycling options that work for people of all ages and abilities, and the opportunity to significantly expand metro-area bus service for the first time in a decade.

With that in mind, we’re excited to announce the launch of a new statewide campaign: Transportation Forward.

As leaders of Transportation Forward, Transit for Livable Communities will be working with our allies to build broad support for new investments in all modes of transportation in the Twin cities, suburbs, and Greater Minnesota. That means bus, rail, bicycling, walking, roads, and bridges. Our advocacy director, Dave Van Hattum, serves as campaign chair. TLC’s new organizer, Andrea Kiepe, also will be heavily engaged with the campaign in coming months.

Transportation Forward is a successor to the Move MN campaign co-chaired by TLC, which succeeded in making transportation funding a top-tier issue during the 2015 session.

Transit for Livable Communities has a strong interest in continuing the momentum of Move MN, while also amplifying the statewide voice for transit, bicycling, and walking. We are definitely excited about this new campaign. And we believe there is real opportunity for multimodal transportation funding at the legislature in 2016. State leaders, including Gov. Mark Dayton and Transportation Committee Chairs Sen. Scott Dibble and Rep. Tim Kelly, also have confirmed their hopes for passing a transportation funding bill when lawmakers reconvene March 8.

Transportation Forward held a successful campaign kick-off event with coalition partners in December.  In the new year, we need TLC supporters to get involved and help us speak up for all modes.

Expect to hear more about the Transportation Forward campaign from Transit for Livable Communities and other partners in the lead-up to the 2016 session. In the meantime, save the date for Transportation Forward Day at the State Capitol on Monday, April 4!

• Sign up to receive email updates and learn about key opportunities to take action.
• Ask your organization, business, or local community to become a coalition partner and publicly support new investments in Minnesota’s transportation system.
