Collaboration with Transportation Options has helped families eliminate barriers and get to employment and child care. It has empowered them to get a job or get out in the community, get groceries. Over 90 percent of our families are fleeing domestic violence or have experienced family violence during their lifetimes. Gaining skills of self-sufficiency is really important for them. Being able to be independent, and having support while they are learning how to do that, has been vital.
Jimmy was motivated to reduce his transportation expenses and expand his options for getting around town. With help from TLC's Transportation Options program, the opportunity to own a bike put him on the path to year-round cycling.
In the past year, TLC has been proud to help Hawa and other Transportation Options program participants overcome transportation challenges. Their experiences reinforce just how empowering and transformative access to good multimodal options can be.
This fall, eighteen nonprofits in the Twin Cities are being certified as Transportation Leaders through TLC's program, setting a new standard of what it means to go places in the metro—for their employees, their organizations, and the communities they serve.
